Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice or now Katowice Airport is located in Pyrzowice, about 30 kilometres north of the centre of Katowice.
Katowice Airport has one of the longest runways available in Poland, 3200 m long and 45 m wide. Katowice Airport is a regional airport of the Silesian Voivodeship. It is in the fourth place of conducted air operations in Poland. The management of the Airport in Pyrzowice decided in 2014 to build a special Cargo area. It was supposed to house the headquarters, warehouses and loading zones for international courier companies, such as DHL, UPS and FEDEX.
The Skanska company selected Betafence as the subcontractor based on our long-term good cooperation and experience in securing areas with increased security. At this point, we can already say that Katowice Airport is also the second most important air cargo centre in the country. It functions as an air freight hub for the south of the country. How to choose a fence for facilities with special requirements and increased risk? Together with the investor, we decided to use Nylofor 2D fence panels. A fence made of galvanized Nylofor 2D panels with a total length of about 700 meters was installed around the entire newly created Cargo zone. The panels were installed on posts with double curved arms, on which the rolls of razor wire were placed. Nylofor 2D panels have met a number of requirements regarding durability and safety. The Nylofor 2D fencing systems consist primarily of heavy welded panels, which are made of thick wires and additionally reinforced with horizontal double wires of large diameter (6.00 mm). This solution provides them with rigidity and resistance to deformation. The ending of the panels with razor wire makes the fence almost impossible to penetrate by unauthorized persons. The fence was also equipped with 5 Egidia sliding gates and motorisation devices. Choosing the right gate for high-risk facilities is particularly important because it is the access point to the whole area. The gate should, above all, discourage its forcing. In this realization, the finish of the gates with the wire additionally increases its resistance to force. In the case of sliding gates, the choice of motorisation is also a very important decision. It should be matched to the gate and the frequency of its use.
For such a busy Cargo zone, gate motorisation is a very important element of the entire fence. The best solution for all facilities is the purchase of gates along with motorisation. Thanks to that you achieve the certainty that both systems have already been tested in mutual work and this limits the possibility of failure, and thus reduces sensitive security points.
