Modernization of the campus of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow

The Jagiellonian University in Kraków is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest universities in the world. It was founded in 1364 from the foundation of Kazimierz III Wielki and renovated in 1400 by Władysław II Jagiełło. Among the graduates of the university over the years were well-known people of culture, science, clergy, politicians and rulers, including astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. The Jagiellonian University today consists of thirteen main departments and three faculties of Collegium Medicum. The buildings owned and used by the university include didactic and academic buildings throughout Kraków, including I Campus within the Old Town, II Campus within Krupnicza Street and Aleja Trzech Wieszczów, III Campus on Ruczaj. The authorities of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków decided to modernize the campus of student houses at Collegium Medicum at ul. Badurskiego 17 in Kraków. This task was appointed to General Contractor - company Karmar SA. It chose Betafence to install the fence around the whole area.

The choice was influenced by our experience in many projects for public places that need special protection. In total a length of 700 m was covered by Nylofor 3D panels in green. Why was it decided to use Nylofor 3D fence panels?

  • Nylofor 3D fence panels are made of galvanized steel wires coated with a high-strength polyester coating. The durability of the coating is achieved thanks to the thermosetting processes at high temperatures. The use of this coating ensures the resistance of the fence to unfavourable weather conditions for many years. In investments for public places, a very important factor is the resistance of the fence to corrosion and often unfavourable weather conditions. Additionally, thanks to the appropriate coatings, the fence will look impeccable for many years.
  • The top panels also have horizontal profiling, which adds extra stiffness to them.
  • The panels have been designed to assemble in the easiest possible way.
  • As mentioned earlier, green panels were used in this implementation, however, the panels are still available in standard zinc colour.

However, depending on the client's requirements, it is possible to order many other colours from the RAL palette. The fence was completed with Egidia sliding gates and swing gates with Nylofor 3D panel infill. The Egidia gates are solid and durable structures thanks to the use of a rigid frame. On the campus area, gabion constructions of small architecture (benches, tables and grill) were installed providing in the future all students a place to study, be nice to spend time outdoors. Gabion structures are made of welded gabion baskets. Thanks to this, the investor can be sure that they will not bulge for many years. The entire fence system allowed for proper protection of the area and creation of a friendly space.
